嚴長壽，被譽為台灣「觀光教父」的勵志典範，「總裁獅子心」的故事更不斷被傳頌。三十多年來，嚴長壽致力行銷台灣，主張觀光要與文化結合，才能讓台灣跟世界交流，也是永續發展之路。
Stanley Yen is hailed as the “Godfather” in the Taiwanese tourism industry, and his rise “From Messenger to Manager” has been a widespread inspiring story. Over the past thirty years, Yen has been dedicated to marketing Taiwan, advocating the combination of tourism and culture, which will lead to Taiwan’s connection with the world as well as sustainable development.
為突破台灣目前的觀光困境，嚴長壽深覺必須先讓社會取得全面性共識，而為了此一共同目標，唯有從教育著手。2009年一場百年罕見的八八風災重創花東之後，讓他心繋台灣東部發展，從此更積極從事教育紮根的利他工作。他親自捲起袖子，將過去幾十年累積的資源與人脈，成立推動公益的平台，以基金會訓練台東的年輕人，協助他們獨立創業，讓台東在地的孩子擁有一條回家的路，在故鄉找到自信與自我價值，以及人生的目標與方向。2012年，嚴長壽接任均一中小學董事長，更為台東帶入國際資源，連結台在地優勢，以藝術人文與自然生態為學習主軸，透過啟發式教學，為台灣教育塑造新價值。「國家要為未來準備人才，學校也必須為青年發展天賦」——期待能以教育改變台灣的未來，讓孩子可以選擇一條尋找自我天賦的路。
To deal with the current tourist predicament in Taiwan, Yen deeply believes that the first thing to do is for the whole society to reach a consensus, and to reach this common goal, we need to start with education. In 2009, Typhoon Morak caused severe flooding and ravaged Hualian and Taidong. This accident provoked Yen’s concern about the development of eastern Taiwan, and therefore made more effort to promote education. He rolled up his own sleeves and used the resources and contacts he had accumulated for decades to establish a platform for charity work. His foundation helps train the youngsters in Taidong to start their own businesses. That way, the local children in Taidong can find their way home, build their own confidence and self-esteem in their home town, and find their goals and directions in life. In 2012, Yen served as chairman of the board of Junyi Experimental School, and brought in international resources to combine with the local advantage. The main learning focus is placed on arts and humanities as well as nature and ecology. With the use of the heuristic method in which students are encouraged to learn by discovering things for themselves, Yen expects to shape new values for education in Taiwan. “The country has to prepare talents for the future; the school has to cultivate skills for young people.” It is expected that education can change the future of Taiwan and every child can choose a path where their talent can be discovered.
